HR1388 Senate Vote: Mandatory slavery pushes on

HR1388 – the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act or the GIVE Act – still is pushing on.

More goodness in this bill…

SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS. (link)
(a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities;
(1) Attempting to influcence legislation
(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes.
(3) Assisting, promoting, or deterring union organizing
(4) Impairing existing contracts or services or collective bargaining agreements.
(5) Engaging in partisan political activities, or other activities designed to influence the outcome of an election to any public office
(6) Participating in, or endorsing, events or activities that are likely to include advocacy for or against political parties, political platforms, political candidates, proposed legislation, or elected officials.
(7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.
(8) Providing a direct benefit to —
(A) a business organized for profit;
(B) a labor organization;
(C) a partisan political organization;
(D) a nonprofit organization that fails to comply with the restrictions contained in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 except that nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent participants from engaging in advocacy activities undertaken at their own initiative; and
(E) an organization engaged in the religious activities described in paragraph (7) unless Corporation assistance is not used to support those religious activities.
(9) Conducting a voter registration drive or using Corporation funds to conduct a voter registration drive.
(10) Such other activities as the Corporation may prohibit.

Does everyone see this crap? I mean, really. So if you get swept under this umbrella and get tossed in the Corps or “volunteer group” or whatever, you no longer have the right to

(1) Attempting to influcence legislation – No more writing your Representative… because that is influcencing legislation.
(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes – Can’t sign any petitions. Can’t join any sort of rally or anything! In general, you cannot show any sort of grievance you have with the government because you can’t write them (above) and you can’t do anything with your signature or your body.
(3) Assisting, promoting, or deterring union organizing – So does this mean that you can’t cross the pickett line to go to work? Or does this mean that if the union comes to your work, you have to join it. Because if you don’t join it, then you are against them.
(4) Impairing existing contracts or services or collective bargaining agreements – Not even sure what this means exactly. It sounds like if any contract is given out then you can never challenge it in any form.
(5) Engaging in partisan political activities, or other activities designed to influence the outcome of an election to any public office – So… you can’t volunteer in any campaign. No VOLUNTARY work for a candidate that you believe in. Hell, are they going to nail your ass for having a sticker on your car?
(6) Participating in, or endorsing, events or activities that are likely to include advocacy for or against political parties, political platforms, political candidates, proposed legislation, or elected officials – Again, you can vote, and that’s it. I bet you could even get in trouble for encouraging your friends to vote for a candidate.
(7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization – So you can’t be any sort of religious leader? Or you can’t ask a group of people to say the Pledge of Allegiance? Can’t work for any sort of volunteer place where they help less fortunate by handing out goods but happen to start their work by a prayer?
(8) Providing a direct benefit to — (A) a business organized for profit; (B) a labor organization; (C) a partisan political organization; (D) a nonprofit organization that fails to comply with the restrictions contained in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 except that nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent participants from engaging in advocacy activities undertaken at their own initiative; and (E) an organization engaged in the religious activities described in paragraph (7) unless Corporation assistance is not used to support those religious activities. – What? So you can voluntarily donate money or something to non-profit groups? Is that what this is saying? This crap is getting weirder and weirder…
(9) Conducting a voter registration drive or using Corporation funds to conduct a voter registration drive – Does this include ACORN?  And can I no longer go our and canvas my neighbors to try to get them to vote or what?
(10) Such other activities as the Corporation may prohibit – Like WHAT? Whatever such action that whoever doesn’t like me or my positions or my beliefs deems to be… whatever, I can be deemed to be in violation of the law?!

Am I the only one out there that realizes that this is horrible stuff? In general, this piece seems to be made so that a very wide array of people fall under this mandatory slavery plan… for various reasons, and then when you are in, you can’t be political anymore. You can just vote, and that’s it. Just listen to the mainstream media and their spin and rhetoric and vote for whoever they like best.

Can someone please remove the [R] from Senator Olympia Snowe’s name? I’m getting really tired of her caucusing with the Democrats on everything.

I could be totally wrong about this section applying to individuals, and if so, please let me know.

    This was on O’Reilly, Glenn Beck and Hannity last week. If you like to keep up on things that are snuck behind your backs check out canadafreepress.com it’s a great site and they are really trying to expose this evil man we have in the White House.

    This is disgusting. I wonder how many people that voted for Obama would like to take their vote back?

    Keep up on this bill. Amazing how this went under the radar with all the media focusing on AIG and the economy. Do not kid yourself, it’s planned that way.

    Wake up before it’s too late…………

    Thank you for visiting RedRiverJ. I am glad that there ARE people out there that are watching this go down.

    I agree, I think it was planned this way. I posted a long while ago about Naomi Klein’s shock doctrine. Of course, she takes a anti-capitalism approach and says that only greedy capitalist are the ones that use the Shock Doctrine to implement unsavory political change. However, those in power now (Liberals) are using the Shock Doctrine to it’s fullest. And, the are telling us they are. Emmanuel – “Never let a serious crisis go to waste.”

    You should check out libertycafeshow.com. I live in Texas and it has recently come out that Texas has been storing all new born babies blood for the past few years without the knowledge or consent of the parents. The Austin police chief wants to take blood for misdemeanor offenses and put the samples in a database as well. Whats next?

    I’ve been talking to a lot of people. Some I work with and some I’m just casual friends with. Some voted for Obama, some did not vote at all. When I tell them what President Obama and his Congress are doing, they tell me I’m a nut. Until something dramatic happens, they are all content to be sheep. By the time I get to tell them ” I told you so “, it will be far too late.

    You guys hear what they are doing to Sarah Palin. They are tying her up in bogus lawsuits, trying to bankrupt her. More Chicago style politics. Change you can believe in. All opposition politicians to el presidente must be destroyed, even before freedom is. Or maybe it is Venezuela style.

    The Obama sheep are still not ready to turn on him. We know what he’s doing, but they still don’t care. All we can do is keep a record. When something happens to wake the sheep up, we can show them the tab. Patience. Opportunity strikes when you least expect it.

  8. 5 April 2009 at 04:03

    According to this poll, ~55% people give Obama a “D” or “F” on his report card.

    You are so right. While HR1388 itself doesn’t scare me, what it can lead to does. It reminds me too much of conversations I’ve had with two people I knew when I was younger, and the programs they were in when they were children. How they behaved, what they did, even to an extent who they interacted with. You see, these two people were part of the Hitler Youth back in the 1930s. That’s scary! We must start calling, e-mail, mailing our Senators and Representatives now before it’s too late.

    What really scares me is we still dont even know who Obama really is? This is someone who became president without ever really showing a birth certificate to this day! More scary is the people didn’t care? What a better way to take over America then stealing it form you from within the country and not having to lose one man in war? These people keep you so tied up with all the little bullcrap going on in life like blow jobs while they right bills to take away every right you have! Keep letting this all go people and you will not even be able to write a letter like his one without going to jail or coming up missing! Me? I dont care one way or the other because Ill die before serving a godless bastard like Obama.

    David,

    Most of us know Obama, he is a Marxist. If you want to learn about him and his ideology, read the Communist manifesto.

    I’m with you, it will be a cold day in hell before I serve Obama.

    hr1388 just passed and is on its way to the White House. Under its rules none of the 13 million members of my church would be allowed to work for the organization, not that any of them would care to indoctrinate children into some kind of Hitler youth organization; but you have to be asking yourself: if they can exclude people of faith from this, what’s next?

  13. 12 May 2009 at 20:01

    Davd b: Thank you for visiting and giving an update. It is sad to see such a bill pass. The bill became law on 21 April 2009. It has also been renamed from Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act to the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act.

    What are our politicians thinking…

    I”ve called every senator I have, all I got back was some warm and fuzzy crap letter that says we must be servants and give to those that are less fortunate and serve our great country…………
    Bull crap…….. My kids serves in the Military, every day risked his life while the pinheads in Washington LEAVE THE BORDERS WIDE OPEN FOR TERRORISTS TO WALTZ INTO THE USA UNCHALLENGED! That doesn’t make me want to serve, it makes me want to puke!
    This is out of control and I can see us living in a socialist country and soon……….
    People you need to speak up, join a tea party, do something, but fight this crap.

    ‘(a) Prohibited Activities- An approved national service position under this subtitle may not be used for the following activities:

    ‘(1) Attempting to influence legislation.

    ‘(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes.

    ‘(3) Assisting, promoting, or deterring union organizing.

    ‘(4) Impairing existing contracts for services or collective bargaining agreements.

    ‘(5) Engaging in partisan political activities, or other activities designed to influence the outcome of an election to Federal office or the outcome of an election to a State or local public office.

    ‘(6) Participating in, or endorsing, events or activities that are likely to include advocacy for or against political parties, political platforms, political candidates, proposed legislation, or elected officials.

    ‘(7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of proselytization, consistent with section 132.

    ‘(8) Consistent with section 132, providing a direct benefit to any–

    ‘(A) business organized for profit;

    ‘(B) labor union;

    ‘(C) partisan political organization;

    ‘(D) nonprofit organization that fails to comply with the restrictions contained in section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, except that nothing in this paragraph shall be construed to prevent participants from engaging in advocacy activities undertaken at their own initiative; and

    ‘(E) organization engaged in the religious activities described in paragraph (7), unless the position is not used to support those religious activities.

    ‘(9) Providing abortion services or referrals for receipt of such services.

    ‘(10) Conducting a voter registration drive or using Corporation funds to conduct a voter registration drive.

    ‘(11) Carrying out such other activities as the Corporation may prohibit.

    On the very first line of this section, the bill is clearly stating that people who have a position in this can’t use their position in the organization to do these things, not that they can’t do them at all whatsoever in a capacity outside of their position.

  17. 18 May 2009 at 19:33

    MC: I am not so sure that it is so clear. If you hold a position, then you hold a position. It does not read “while on duty” or “while working.” But, I could be wrong. I just remember that when I was on active duty they said you cant do X, Y, or Z while on duty (or you can’t do X, Y, Z while in uniform), not you can’t do X, Y, Z while holding this position. Why the difference? The military one is very clear that you can do whatever you want when off-duty and you don’t associate yourself with the military. This language seems to be all-encompassing.

    Also, this bill is not upsetting because of that line or those limitations. It is upsetting to me because of what it stands for – involuntary servitude. From your vantage point, do you think this bill violates the 13th Amendment by forcing involuntary servitude?

  18. 23 May 2009 at 13:35

    What I wonder is HOW MUCH MORE IS GOING TO HAVE TO HAPPEN BEFORE MORE PEOPLE WAKE UP to what this administration and Congress are taking away from the American people and the HUGE burdens they are placing on middle class?
    I hear people say and see tea party signs that say “Stop spending my Grand kids money” which is well and good but folks you’d better we concerned about YOUR RETIREMENT, cause this keeps going like it is NONE of us will have retirement money, it will be gone paying taxes or it will be spread around to a bunch of sorry losers that are to lazy to work.
    Speak up NOW, get in a tea party, right letters, e-mails, make calls without stopping, or forever hold your piece. The USA is on a downward spiral, WAKE UP AMERICA BEFORE WE HIT BOTTOM………

  19. 24 May 2009 at 17:15

    RedRiverJ: Unfortunately I think that Americans will never know until it is too late.

  20. 24 May 2009 at 17:49

    I agree with you KK, I agree………. seems they are all going to kid functions, going about their lives and are total unaware of the dire mess we are in today. I am not against kid-family functions, that’s exactly what good parents do, what makes me furious is the drive by media IS NOT reporting this properly and truthfully. They are so damn bias they are putting a smiley face on Liberal Fascism. Read Jonah Goldberg’s book of that name………it tells the truth.
    I have it listed on a website I manage………. http//:www.roc-usa.net

  21. 25 May 2009 at 03:03

    Red River J: I don’t blame people entirely. In psychology Maslow stated that everyone had a heirarchy of needs – if the bottom level was not met then it was hard or impossible to reach the upper levels.

    The levels, in order, are: physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, and self-transcendence. I think that between the government and the media, we are largely kept in the physological, safety, and love/belonging levels. however, I believe that the individual doesn’t start taking action to be a responsible and interactive member of a society until the transcendence stage. The transcendence stage is where we grow.

    I know this all seems a bit odd and I don’t have time to really explain it. But think about it – all we hear about from both political parties is how the other is evil/crazy and wanting to take everything from us… then they both take all or freedoms/liberties anyways…. then they both spend all our money and then ask for more money….

    So what ends up happening is that life is so molested that we become more concerned with just maintaining our jobs so we can feed our families. On a health level we are always being being told how unhealthy we are and how much we need better health care. Oh, and the world is polluted and we are all going to die of climate change. Just these few things take us down to the safety and sometimes the physiological level.

    Of course a lot of people are not going to get involved… they are too busy with just scraping by. I know this sounds like an excuse to be lazy… it is not. It takes a special individual to realize that sometimes you won’t have the bottom rungs of human needs unless you transcend and start kicking ass and taking numbers.

  22. 25 May 2009 at 07:26

    I understand. I believe this administration is playing up to just what you described above straight out of the Saul Alinsky play book. QUOTE-“rub raw the sores of discontent”.
    check out this story, it says it all.

    “The levels, in order, are: physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, and self-transcendence.”
    -BLAH BLAH BLAH. It is all a bunch of crap. If individuals feel they matter, then they matter. If individuals feel they don’t matter, then they join a group so they can “feel” like they matter. It is that simple.

  24. 27 May 2009 at 04:42

    DJ: Wow. Who ever said anything about joining a group? Maslow’s Heirachy of Needs has nothing to do with individualism or collectivism or feeling like you matter. It is about the functioning of the human body.

    Let me ask you… if you were constantly being chased by someone trying to kill you (whether or not it was your fault or choice, not the point)… how much time would you be spending trying to enlighten yourself with politics during this debacle?

  25. 25 DJ
    29 May 2009 at 23:40

    KK,

    The second (safety) and third (love/belonging) speak directly to the inclusion in a group. I suppose you could argue that physiological and self-transcendence are specific to the individual. Esteem, on the other hand comes from both self and the impression one has of self from others, I think EGO stems from (self) esteem or the belief that one is held in esteem by others (like from a group).

    Regarding your scenario; First off, I wouldn’t run, I would turn and confront. I am too important to me to waste my time being chased by someone who desires to end my life, I will take the chance that I can win in a confrontation. If I win, the chase is over and I can get on with my life, if I lose, I’m dead and I can get on with my afterlife.

    Everything is based on Individualism and/or Collectivism, every person wants to believe they matter, if they believe they matter, life is good, if they don’t feel that they matter, they find a group to join so they can be a part of something they think matters-making them feel like they matter.

  26. 30 May 2009 at 13:13

    DJ,
    So what is your point? Everything does not need to be individualist in nature. I think that we should all ensure that when it gets down to it that we are all responsible for ourselves. However, if we recognize that in the end everything depends on YOU, is it is absolutely wrong to join a group as an individual?

    Am I wrong for being loved by my family (a group)? Am I wrong for belonging to certain political/activities (groups)?

    I am not even sure what you are talking about with safety being part of a group? Can you not feel safe alone? Hogwash my friend. This is as silly as saying that a group cannot feel unsafe? Ever seen people en masse running for their lives as something threatens their lives (911, earthquakes, wild animal, terrorist, etc).

    You should know that I am an individualist and am not advocating that one has to be a part of a group to succeed in life.

    Yes, ABSOLUTELY! Whether you run or fight, you are still addressing that issue before you are addressing lower level issues just as I said! THAT is what I was talking about. This is in no way saying that you have to be in a group or whatever.

    I think you are so against collectivism (rightly so) that you are blinding yourself to what my entire write up about Maslow’s was about in the first place – meeting the lower human needs.
